<note>ABSTRACT
Learning grammar is not easy for students; most students find difficulties
in learning grammar. There were still many grammatical errors or inappropriate
sentence structures. Therefore, the writer applied a game expected to increase the
students’ English grammar. The objectives of this study were (1) to know how the
Team Game Tournament can help tenth-grade students of SMK Swastisari
Kupang increase their English grammar. (2) To know the strengths and
weaknesses of implementing the Team Game Tournament (TGT) to increase the
English grammar of the tenth-grade students of SMK Swastisari Kupang. This
study used classroom action research (CAR). The subject of this research was the
tenth-grade students of SMK Swastisari Kupang in the academic year 2021/2022.
The writer chose the students from Accounting Class and Marketing class, which
had 16 students. The data collection technique used in this study was
triangulation, consisting of a written test, observation sheet, and questionnaire
sheet. Meanwhile, the data compilation methods in this research used the CAR
model by Kemmis and Mc Taggart’s theories. The data were analyzed both
descriptively and qualitatively. The study finds that applying the TGT in SMK
Swastisari Kupang can increase students’ learning activities in English subjects,
especially the simple past tense. Besides the success of implementing the TGT,
there are still some weaknesses that the writer found. They are 1) Based on the
result of observation, the TGT was successfully implemented according to the
procedure but had not seen an increase in activity student learning. This happened
because the researcher had not maximized the game application. In the TGT
game, the researcher also needed a lot of time to prepare equipment and game
procedures; 2) based on the interview, some students were less active in the game
group because there were students who tendssed to dominate. The application of
the game method can increase student learning activities in the tenth grade of
SMK Swastisari Kupang in English subjects, especially the simple past tense.
