This study investigates the conceptualization Manggarai society on power relationship between wifegiver and wife taker in marriage kinship. The theoreticaframework used in the study is eclectic as itamalgamates a number of conceptions proposed insocial anthropology, sociolinguistics and culturalinguistics. The relationship of power between AnakRona (wife giver) and Anak Wina (wife taker) isasymmetrical, as the Anak Rona as wife giver hohigher power than the Anak Wina as wife taker. Theasymmetrical relationship of their power is realised ihe forms and meanings of the language they emploin many verbal expressions.
