<note>This thesis is entitled “SCANNING STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE READING OF THIRD GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 11 KUPANG”. The research aimed to know what achievements students get after using scanning strategies in learning. This research used a descriptive quantitative research method. This research occurred in Junior High School 11 Kupang city, especially class 9J. In collecting data, the writer gave some questions about what technique they used before learning reading. From the data collected, the writer gave testing forms multiple choice before and after students used the course. Before the writer used techniques, the writer found the first used pre-test knowledge before students used the scanning techniques resulted in a mean of 46,66. The writer used the post-test in the previous research to see the achievements students get after utilising the scanning techniques, which resulted from a mean of 77,37. From the processed data, it was found that the scores were different. It means scanning strategies effectively taught reading for grade three at SMPN 11 Kupang.
