This thesis is entitled An Analysis of Code Switching in the Talk Show Catatan Najwa with Agnes Monica. Code-switching is a sociolinguistic phenomenon where the speakers change the language they used from their native language to a foreign language. The purpose of this study is to analyze the types, the most dominant types and the reason for code-switching used by Agnes Monica and Najwa Shihab on Catatan Najwa talk show. The underlying theory used for 3 types of code-switching by Romaine (1995) and 7 reasons for code-switching by Hofmann (1991). This study was done using qualitative content analysis. The data analysis revealed that there are 3 types of code-switching: 1) tag switching with 13 data, 2) intra-sentential code-switching with 56 data, and 3) inter-sentential code-switching with 34 data. Code-switching used the most by Agnes Mo and Najwa Shihab was intra-sentential code-switching with 56 data. While the reason code-switching, there 7 reasons why Agnes Monica and Najwa Shihab change their language: 1) talking about a particular topic, 2) quoting somebody else, 3) being emphatic about something, 4) interjection, 5) repetition for clarification, 6) the intention of clarifying the speech content for an intercalator, 7) expressing group identity.
