This thesis is entitled: ‘An Etymological Study of Place Names in Soe, South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia’. This study described the origin of place names in Soe, South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. This study was conducted to answer the questions: (1) What are the etymological meanings of place names in Soe, South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province (2) What are the morphological process in forming the places’ names in Soe, South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Prvince. The aims of this research were to describe the etymological process and morphological process in Soe South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. This research used qualitative descriptive study to describe the etymological process of place names in Soe, South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. The subject of this study was the names of places in Soe, South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Data resource of this study was the list of the places names in Soe,South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Data collection techniques in this study was interview. Data analysis techniques were transcribe and describe. This research was conducted in three weeks from 6th until 27th June 2022 in Soe, South Central Timor Regency. In collecting the data, the writer found that there are 15 names of places in Soe, South Central Timor Regency, that are derived from local language or Uab Meto. These names have histories and meaning derived from regional geography and historical events. The morphological process of place names in Soe, South Central Timor Regency is compounding. Compounding of the places names consists of two or three words that can be nouns, verbs or adjectives. Keywords: Etymology Study, Morphology Process, Uab Meto, place names, Soe.
