<note>This study aims to know the ability of the second semester students of English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University in the academic year 2021/2022 and to find out the difficulties that are encountered by the second semester students of English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University in the academic year 2021/2022. The research method that was used in this research was quantitative-qualitative research method (mixed method). The population of this research was 168 students from the second semester of English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University. The sample was taken 10-25% of the population. Thus, the sample that was used in this research is 32 students. Techniques that were used to collect the data were test and interview. The quantitative data obtained from the result of the test were analyzed to know the level of the ability of the students in constructing English passive voice. The level of the ability was determined by using the level of proficiency by Harris. Students who participated in the interview were students who were classified as poor. The result of the interview was used to get qualitative data to answer the second research question. The findings revealed that: (1) Students’ ability in constructing passive voice was in the level of average to good with the main score is 62,625. (2) Difficulties that were encountered by the students in constructing English passive voice were the lack of understanding kinds of tenses, difficulties in changing auxiliary verb “be”, and difficulty in changing the main verb that was related to the students’ memories capacities.
