This thesis is entitled: A Study on Impolite Expressions Used in Bajawa Dialect. The problems of this study are: (1) what are the types of impolite expression used in Bajawa dialect of Ngada language in Kampung Bajawa and (2) how the impolite words are used in communication. This study aims: (1) to identify the types of impolite expression used in Bajawa dialect of Ngada language in Kampung Bajawa and (2) to describe how the impolite expression used in communication. In conducting this research the writer used descriptive qualitative method. Techniques of data collection were observation and interview. The data were analyzed by using transcribing, identifying, and describing. The result shows that two types of impolite expression, such as: (a) impolite words and (b) impolite phrase. There are three types of impoliteness used in communications, such as: (a) entertaining impoliteness, example mude kara(pumply), lua dheke(chincilla), noko(skinny), senu (abnornal mentally), bingu(crazy), buri(bottom), mite(black), lasu(dick), bhoda(stupid). (b) Affective im-politeness, example juja lua(tingle), ote lako la’i(foolish), tete jughu(idiot), wera(devil), senge lenge(idiot), zungu petu(idiot), wuta(eat), haba ta’i(greedy), ngesa(bad). (c) coercive impoliteness example, ghedhe(shut up) and jere(poor). In communication the impolite expression are used to express expression such as (a) anger, example mara tete jughu(you are idiot), (b) scolding, example tipe ghera de senu-senu(you are so crazy), (c) insinuating, example kazi kena de jere(he destitute), (d) disappointment, example hoga kena maen bola ngesa bholo(their games was terrible), (e) greeting or joke, example lase, kau peja pu wengi?(when did you arrive), mite ghera kuse bhogi(you are so black).The use of impolite words is not only by adults but also in certain contexts teenagers can use a few words or sentences for jokes.
