This thesis is entitled "AN ANALYSIS OF PREFIXES AND SUFFIXES IN IELTS READING SIMULATION TEST". This study was conducted to answer the questions: (1) What Prefixes that are used in IELTS reading? (2)What suffixes that are used in IELTS reading? (3)What functions or grammatical meanings do the prefixes have? (4)What are the functions or grammatical meanings of suffixes? The purposes of this study are to find out the functions or grammatical meanings of prefixes and suffixes in the IELTS reading simulation test. The method used in this research was the qualitative descriptive method. It used to choose and found the prefixes and suffixes in the text. The data collection techniques included taking note of the text's prefixes and suffixes. The result shows that some of prefixes are used to found the meaning of new word, to indicate the negative form of a word, and also be used to express the relationship in time, place or manner. Suffixes are a letter/a group of letters attached to the end of a word to form a new word or to change the grammatical function (part of speech) of the original word.
