<note>Analysis of Mathematical Reasoning Ability of Class VIII Students of SMP Negeri 20 Kupang City on Statistical Materials in View of Learning Independence

This research was conducted with the aim of describing the level of mathematical reasoning ability in statistics material in terms of the learning independence of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 20 Kota Kupang. This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive type. The subjects in this study were 6 class VIII C students at SMP Negeri 20 Kupang City. The instruments in this study consisted of questionnaires, test questions and interview guidelines. The results of the study show that the description of mathematical reasoning abilities in statistical material in terms of learning independence includes; (a) Students with a high learning independence category are able to do all four questions correctly and are able to fulfill the five indicators of mathematical reasoning ability. (b) Students in the moderate learning independence category were only able to work on two questions out of the four questions given and from the two questions students worked on they were unable to fulfill the five indicators of mathematical reasoning ability. (c) Students in the low learning independence category are only able to work on one question out of the four questions given and from one problem done students are only able to fulfill the first indicator, namely giving a mathematical statement. Meanwhile, on the results of the level of students' mathematical reasoning ability in statistical material in terms of learning independence, it was obtained; a) students who have a high level of learning independence have a high category of mathematical reasoning ability, b) students who have a moderate level of learning independence have a low level of mathematical reasoning ability, c) students who have a low level of learning independence, then mathematical reasoning ability fall into the low category.
