This thesis is entitled: “Using pictures to improve reading comprehension of eighth graders of SMP Sankarolus Habi, Maumere in academic year 2022/2023”. The problem of this study is: can the use of pictures improve reading comprehension of eighth graders of SMP Sankarolus Habi, Maumere in academic year 2021/2023? .This study aims to know whether the use of pictures can improve reading comprehension of eighth graders of SMP Sankarolus Habi, Maumere in academic year 2022/2023. The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research was conducted in SMP Sankarolus Habi on january to february 2023. The research subjects was eighth grade students of SMP Sankarolus Habi, Maumere in academic year 2022/2023. There were 22 students as the subjects. The instruments were a test and observation. The test was multiple choice test that consistsed of 30 items and the observation sheet which contains teachers and students‟ activities during the teaching learning proccess. The data were analyzed by combining qualitative and quantitaive technique. The mean of pre test score and post test score in cycle 1 and cycle 2 was count used the formula. The result shows that the use of picture can improve reading comprehension of eighth graders of SMP Sankarolus Habi, because based on the average grade from pre test is 28, post test of cycle 1 is 69 and 77 in post test cycle 2. It shows that the students reading comprehension mastery in cycle 2 was improve significantly. It means that the use of pictures can improve reading comprehension of eighth graders of SMP Sankarolus Habi, Maumere in academic year 2022/2023. Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Using Picture
