<note>The aims of this research are to know the ability of the eleventh grade of SMA Kristen Kupang in writing analytical exposition text and to know their difficulties in writing analytical exposition text. This research used a quantitative-qualitative research method (mixed method). The subject of this research was 28 students of the eleventh graders of SMA Kristen Kupang in the academic year 2022/2023. The researcher used writing tests and interviews as the instrument to collect data. The quantitative data obtained from the result of the test were analyzed to know the students' ability in writing analytical exposition text. The criteria of ability were determined by using the classification of ability by Arikunto. Students who participated in the interview were students who were classified as fair, poor, and very poor. The result of the interview was used to get qualitative data to answer the second research question. The findings of this research were: (1) Students’ ability in writing analytical exposition text was in the level of poor criteria with the main score of 58,14. (2) Difficulties that were faced by the students in writing analytical exposition text were the components of writing in content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. Those difficulties were caused by
the student’s lack of practice and motivation in writing analytical exposition texts.</note>
