This study aims to know the ability and to find out the problems that are faced by the twelfth-grade students of SMAN 1 Sabu Barat in the academic year 2022/2023. The research method used in this research was the quantitative-qualitative research method (mixed method). The population of this research was 25 students (<100) from the twelfth grade majoring in language of SMAN 1 Sabu Barat. The sample of this research was 25 students. Techniques used to collect the data were tests and interviews. The quantitative data obtained from the result of the test were analyzed to know the level of the ability of the students in translating English compound words into Bahasa Indonesia. Students who participated in the interview were the entire twelfth grade majoring in language students of SMAN 1 Sabu Barat. The result of the interview was used to get qualitative data to answer the second research question. The finding revealed that: (1) Students’ ability in translating English compound words into Bahasa Indonesia was in the level of weak with a mean score of 21.4 (2) The students’ problems in translating English compound words into Indonesian were caused by problems in identifying words, problem in determining the correct equivalent word in Bahasa Indonesia, and lack of understanding of compound words.
