<note>This study aims at knowing the grammatical errors and the possible causes of errors committed by the second semester students of English Studies Program of Nusa Cendana University in their translation of Indonesian narrative text into English. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The total population was 171 students of the second semester of English studies program of Nusa Cendana University. The researcher selected class B which had 25 students as the sample. In this study, the researcher used two instruments. The first instrument was translating test in the form of narrative text translated by students to answer the first research question; what are the grammatical errors made by the second semester students of English study program of Nusa Cendana University. The second instrument was an interview to answer the second research question; what are the possible causes of errors committed by the second semester students of English studies program of Nusa Cendana University. The researcher analyzed the data by identifying, classifying, and describing the data. The finding showed that 141 errors were identified as grammatical errors. The identified grammatical errors were classified based on Dulay’s (1982) theory, namely surface strategy taxonomy. There were four types of grammatical errors committed by the IIB students English studies program of Nusa Cendana University in their narrative text, namely 24 errors of Omission (17,02%), 30 errors of Addition (21,27%), 15 errors of Misordering (10,63%) and 72 errors of Misformation (50,06%).The researcher also found three causes of errors made by the second semester students of English studies program of Nusa Cendana University such as interlingual transfer, intralingual transfer, context of learning, and communication strategies. Based on the result, it is figured out that the students still lack of knowledge and have difficulty applying grammatical structure in their translating.
