The learn English is not without making mistakes. The problem is faced by many students in grammatical use especially in the use of present perfect tense. The objectives of this study were (1) it aims at obtaining the levels of grammatical competence in using the present perfect tense by the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 1 SABU BARAT. (2) The aim of this research is to know the ability levels of grammatical competence in using the present perfect tense by the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 1 SABU BARAT. (3) The research aims to identify difficulties encountered by the students in using present perfect tense by the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 1 SABU BARAT. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research was the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 1 SABU BARAT in the academic year 2022/2023. The eleventh-grade students consisted of 11 classes with the total number as many as 258 students. The writer used a purposive sampling technique to select the participant. Who were students from language (Bahasa) class which had 27 students. The data collection techniques used in this study was a test and questionnaire. The result shows that eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 SABU BARAT in the academic year 2022/2023 are able to use present perfect tense, because, beside on the percentage of level of student’s ability was 37, 03% and it was categorized as good level. Besides, the mean of students score was 71, 6%. Most of the students are able in using present perfect tense because they know the pattern of how to use present perfect tense.
