This study focused on finding and describing the forms and the meaning of compound words in Lio language spoken in Mbuja village. The informants for this study were the native speakers of Lio language and domiciled in Mbjuja Village of Ende district. The writer used audio-recording, and note-taking to collect the data. The problem that was identified in this research is what types of compound words used by native speakers in Lio language, what is the formation and the meaning of those compound words used b native speakers in Lio lanuguage. This research aims to identify the types and the meaning of compound words in the Lio language, and analyze the formation of compound words in Lio Ende language. The method of this research is used descriptive and qualitative. This research uses Bauer’s theory of the types of compounds, Plag et al,’s theory. In this case of collecting data, the researcher used interview and recording techniques to collect the data. In interview techniques, firstly, the writer will give a defenition an sd example of compound words and the writer will ask the people to give the other example of Compound words in Lio language based on the defenition before. After that, the researcher identified and listed compound words, and then the researcher analyzed the data and categorized the compound word into various categories. Then, the process of analysis includes what the researcher has interviewed and recorded, and the last the researcher reported the finding. There is only one type of compound word in Lio language: namely headed compound consists of the compound noun, compound adjective, and compound verb.
