This thesis is entitled: A STUDY ON COMPOUND WORDS IN TIMU DIALECT OF SABU LANGUAGE. The problems of this research are: firstly, what types of compound words in Timu dialect of Sabu language. Secondly, what are meanings of those compound words. Thirdly, how is the formation of compound words in Timu dialect of Sabu language? This study aims to identify types of compound words in Timu dialect of Sabu language, to describe meanings of compound words in Sabu language, to describe how those compound words seen from their functions in sentences, and to describe how the formation of compound words in Timu dialect of Sabu language is. The research was conducted in Bolou village, East Sabu distric, Sabu Raijua regency on August, 2022. The type of research used was descriptive qualitative method. There were five native speakers of Sabu language especially in Bolou village as the informants. The techniques used to collect data were observation, interview, notetaking and recording techniques. In analyzing the data, the writer used some techniques, like transcribing, identifying, and describing. The result shows that there were 53 compound words found in Sabu language especially in Timu dialect. The types of compound words found in Sabu language were nominal compound (noun + noun, verb + noun, adjective + noun), verbal compound (noun + verb), and adjectival compound (noun + adjective, verb + adjective). The meanings of compound words found in Sabu language were divided into transparent and opaque meaning. There were two formation of compound words in Sabu language, like open compound and closed compound.
