<note>This thesis is entitled “An Analysis of Grammatical Errors in Writing Descriptive Text Made by The Ninth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Amarasi”.  The aims of this study is done to analysis  the grammatical errors in writing descriptive text made by the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Amarasi. The method of this study are qualitative and quantitative method. The sample of this study is nineth grade students in SMP Negeri 1 Amarasi. The instrument of the study is writing test. Based on the result, ninth grade students often make grammatical errors in their writing, the errors are analyzed based on four types, and there are Omision, Addition, Misformation, and Misordering. After analysis the data from 16 students, the researcher find out 34 total errors which decided to highest frequency to lowest frequency. The result showed that the highest frequency grammatical error  made by students is Ommision  which is 50%, and the lowest frequency grammatical error are both Addition and Misordering which is 14,70 %. The highest errors are caused by interlingual transfer or negative influence mother tongue.  It happens because English grammar difference from indonesian grammar. The lowest error are caused by interlingual transfer. It happen incorrect generalization of rules within the target language. Based on the finding above, the researcher can conclude that ninth grade students need to more study about English grammar in order to avoid error in writing English test.
