This thesis is entitled: ‘AN ANALYSIS OF TABOO WORDS IN BOTI TRIBES COMMUNITY, SOUTH CENTRAL TIMOR REGENCY’. The problems of this research are: firstly, what are types of taboo words used by the community of Boti Tribe in South Central Timor Regency. Secondly, what are functions of taboo words used by the community of Boti Tribe in South Central Timor Regency. Thirdly, what are reasons of taboo words used by the community of Boti Tribe in South Central Timor Regency? This study aims to classify types of taboo words used by the community of Boti tribe South Central Timor regency, to describe fucntions of taboo words used by the community of Boti tribe in South Central Timor regency, and to describe reasons of taboo words used by the community of Boti tribe in South Central Timor regency. The research was conducted in Boti Tribes Community, South Central Timor regency on August, 2022. The type of reseach used was descriptive qualitative method. There were five native speakers of Boti language especially in Boti vilage as the informants. The techniques of the data collection were observation, interview, note-taking and recording techniques. In analyzing te data, the writer used some techniques, like transcribing, identifying, and describing. The result shows that were 30 taboo words found in Boti language. The types of taboo words found in Boti language is epithets, profanity, vulgarity, and obscenity. The function of taboo words found in Boti language is to draw attention to oneself, to show contempt, to be provocative, and to mock authority. The reasons of taboo words found in Boti language is anger or frustasion, descriptive-evaluative, joking, and suprise.
