An analysis on the skill in learning Academic Vocabulary to improve the quality of reading comprehension of the second-year students at SMP Negeri Bakalang Pantar Alor. English Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Educational Sciences of Nusa Cendana University. This study aims to analyze the factors that influencing the skill in learning academic vocabulary to improve the reading comprehension and to find out the difficulties experienced in learning academic vocabulary of the second year students at SMP Negeri Bakalang. The research method that was used in this research was a descriptive method. The sample was taken from 20% of the population of second year students at SMP Negeri Bakalang. The findings of this research deal with the students’ score in the test and the students’ respond of the interviews. The results show that it was the factors of self–motivation and environment that has the big influence. The difficulties were the lack of understanding of Academic Vocabulary, did not have English Dictionary, and did not know who to ask. Keywords: Analysis, academic vocabulary, factors, difficulties
