<note>This writing deals with a discussion and analysis of the errors in translating Indonesian narrative text into English and the factors made by the eighth-grade students of SMPK Mater Inviolata in the academic year 2022/2023. For this purpose, a descriptive method was used. In gathering data, a test was used. The test was in the form of a narrative text about a fairy tale. The students were asked to translate the text from Indonesian into English. In analyzing the result of students’ translation, the surface strategy taxonomy by Dullay, Burt, and Krashen (1982) was used. The subject of the research was 20 students from eighth-grade students of SMPK Mater Inviolata in the academic year 2022/2023.The result of the data analysis showsthe errors of the eighth-grade students of SMPK Mater Inviolata in the academic year 2022/2023 in translating Indonesian narrative text into English. The data compiled were analyzed descriptively to find out the types of errors and the factors made by
students in translating text. It was found that the students made the following errors; omission errors, misformation errors, misordering errors, and addition errors. The percentage of each type of error was; omission 14,5%, misformation 58,77%, misordering9,16%, and addition17,55%. The most frequent error made by the students was misformation. Regarding this finding, the teachers are suggested to help the students in the teaching and learning process. Besides, the students should learn more about any subjects, especially in translation that is considered to be beneficial to help them in translating a text.</note>
