This research used a qualitative research method. The researcher chose 10 representatives of second semester students of English department as a sample. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation and interview. The researcher used three major phases of the data collection, they were; Data collection, data analysis and conclusion. From the data analysis, the researcher found some conclusion of students’ problem in mastering speaking skill at English Department as follows: first, researcher found that the students’ problem in mastering speaking were: lack of vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, fluency and comprehends/understood English well. Second, the causes of problems that students faced in mastering speaking skills were the students being unconfident to speak English, fear to make mistakes when speaking, anxiety when teacher asked to speak up, and shyness to perform in front of class. Furthermore students lack motivation in learning English up to their personality and situational problems that prevented them from performing well in speaking.
