<note>The title of this writing “Teaching through Conversational Strategy Speaking to Students of SMA Negeri 09 Kupang” The research problems of the study were: 1) How do the teacher at SMA Negeri 09 Kupang use conversational strategy in teaching speaking? and 2) How the implementation of the students  at SMA Negeri 09 Kupang speaking skill after learning by using conversational strategy? The aim of this study was to find out; 1) How the teacher at SMA Negeri 09 Kupang used conversational strategy in teaching speaking and 2) The implementation of the students  at SMA Negeri 09 Kupang speaking skill after learning by using conversational strategy. The method used in this writing is qualitative method. The data of this resarch is taken from SMA Negeri 09 Kupang. The result of this study showed that; 1) the using of conversational strategy to improve students speaking skill namely; the first, teacher explained to the students about how to learn by using conversational strategy. The second, the teacher shared the students in groups discussion, then gave them the same topic discussion. The third, in learning process, after one group presented their topic then the other group prepared two questions to ask the group presentation. The fourth, after each group finished to present their topic discussion, the teacher gave feedback and conlution. 2) The implementation of the students at SMA Negeri 09 Kupang speaking skill after learning by using conversational strategy was had positive impac to improve students’ speaking skill. The suggestion of this study is the English teacher should be able in choosing what strategies in teaching English relevant to with the students’ ability needs and interests
