The problems of this study are to what extent can the use of audio-visual media improve listening skills of twelfth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Kupang in the academic year 2023/2024 through news item text and what are the difficulties of twelfth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Kupang in the academic year 2023/2024 in listening to news item text by using audio-visual media. The aims of this study are to know whether the use of audio visual media improve listening skills of twelfth grades students of SMA Negeri 5 Kupang in the academic year 2023/2024 through news item text and to identify the difficulties of twelfth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Kupang in the academic year 2023/2024 in listening to news item text by using audio visual media. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, which the instruments were pretest and posttest included the stages of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research was carried out in 2 cycles with 34 students in twelfth grade of SMA Negeri 5 Kupang in the academic year 2023/2024 as subjects. The data was analyzed by using qualitative descriptive technique. The researcher used an essay test to collect data. Audio visual media can improve listening skills of twelfth grade of SMA Negeri 5 Kupang in the academic year 2023/2024 through news item text. The results showed that in the class average score of the pretest was 55 an increase 73 in posttest cycle 1 and 87 in posttest cycle 2. The used of news item text as materials listening was improved the students’ ability in listening skills of twelfth grade of SMA Negeri 5 Kupang in the academic year 2023/2024 through news item text.
