<note>This research discusses about the grammar translation method in improving reading skills. For the aims as well of this research are (1) to know the grammar translation method help the Fourth semester students of history education to improve their reading skill and (2) to know the strategies for the fourth semester students of history education in using the grammar translation method in improving reading skill. The research used was descriptive qualitative method and was conducted in the History Education at Nusa Cendana University in academic year 2022/2023. The population of this research was 38 students. The instrument of this research was used to collect the data was interview and questionaires. In collecting the data, the researcher used the interview for asking some questions about the grammar translation method in improving reading skill and also use a questionaires before the interview started. The researcher used the interview and questionaires as the data procedures. The data were analysed by using the percentage formula from Sudijono (2008). The result showed that the use of grammar translation method in improving reading skills can improve student’s comprehension. The use of grammar translation are very important for the fourth semester students in learning process and they able to improve their reading skills through this method by understand the meaning from the contents and also able to translating the sentences into specific information. Based on the research, the students were used the-grammar-translation method as their learning to find out the meaning from the text and to know the new vocabularies. The strategies used by the students were used for improving their reading skill in using the-grammar-translation method which they able to translating the words from the text and learn more about the vocabularies.</note>
