This research aims to measure the extent to which skimming can help students comprehend English narrative text. The writer investigated skimming as a reading strategy for improving comprehension of English narrative texts among XI IPA1 students, along with the impact of skimming on students’ comprehension before and after treatment. The writer employed the quasi-experimental method, and the subjects were XI IPA1 and XI IPA3 students with a sample size of 60 divided into 30 students in each group. The writer used three instruments: pretest-posttest, observation list, and questionnaire. Based on these three calculations, a skimming effectiveness analysis was derived. This research found that student learning outcomes shifted before and after the skimming treatment. The writer discovered that the average pre-test score for the experimental class significantly different. XI IPA1 students received a score in the “excellent” category with a scale of 90%, this may lead skimming as “highly effective” strategy. Furthermore, through pretest and post-test data, the writer validated the hypotheses by identifying a significant difference in student learning outcomes using the t-test. The significant value was discovered to be less than the standard statistical test value of 0.05, implying that skimming had a significant impact on students’ comprehension. This means that the alternative hypothesis, “H1: skimming does help IPA1 students improve their comprehension of narrative texts,” was accepted.
