<note>The title of this research is "ANALYSIS OF FORM AND MEANING OF TABOO (PIRE) IN LIO ETHNIC OF WOLOGAI VILLAGE".  The research problems to be answered are (1) what are the forms considered as pire or taboo in Wologai community?, (2)what are the cultural meanings of pire found in Wologai community? The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative method. The data sources of this study were obtained from observations, interviews, picture taking, and sound recording. The researcher retrieved data by analyzing and describing. Based on the results of data analysis, the researcher finds there are 9 pire in Wologai village, there are traditional taboo (Nggua), taboo for pregnant women (pire to ata bhetu), taboo when someone dies (pire ta ata mata), taboo during traditional house construction (pire kema sa'o/kowu sa'o nggua), taboo for stone and soil (pire tana no watu), taboo when feeding the ancestor (pire pati ka embu mamo), taboo during house construction (pire kema sa'o mera), taboo when naming a child (pire pati naja ana), taboo for parents- in-laws as well as son and daughter in-law (pire tu’a rua) and taboo when go hunting (pire mbana uri). From the findings, it is concluded that pire has a meaning that becomes unwritten rule for the people of Wologai village.
