<note>This thesis is entitled: ‘USING ENGLISH SHORT STORIES TO DEVELOP VOCABULARY OF THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS’ OF SMPN NUNBAI KEFAMENANU IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022’. The problem of this study is: can the use of English short stories develop vocabulary of seventh grade students of SMPN Nunbai Kefamenanu in academic year 2021/2022? The aim of this study is to know whether the use of English short stories can develop the vocabulary of SMPN Nunbai Kefamenanu in academic year 2021/2022. The method used was experimental method. The research was conducted at SMPN Nunbai Kefamenanu on August 2022. The research population was seventh grade students of SMPN Nunbai Kefamenanu in the academic year 2020/2021. There were 168 students as the population. The sample of this research was 42 students  divided into two groups, that is experimental group consist of pre test and control group consist of post test. The instrument used was       a test. It was multiple choice test that consisted of 30 items. The data were analyzed by computing the significance of the treatment of scores, and the significance of the treatment by using short stories. The mean of scores between the control group and the experimental group in the pre-test and post-test was compared to determine the difference by using the T test formula. The result shows that the use of English short stories can improve vocabulary of seventh grade students of SMPN Nunbai Kefamenanu in academic year 2021/2022, because based on the score of t-ratio obtained was 19 and the degree of freedom was 42 which was higher than 2,01669 of the t-table at the 5% level or P > 0,05 (5%) of significance. In this case, null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. It means that the use of English short stories can slightly improve vocabulary of seventh grade students of SMPN Nunbai Kefamenanu in the academic year 2020/2021.
