<note>The problems of this research are: (1) what are types of illocutionary acts used by English teacher of tenth grade of SMAN 4 Kupang in teaching English? (2) what are types of illocutionary acts used by English teacher of tenth grade of SMAN 4 Kupang in teaching English? This study aims to identify and describe the types of illocutionary acts used by English teacher of tenth grade of SMAN 4 Kupang in teaching English and to identify the type of illocutionary acts that is mostly used by English teacher of tenth grade of SMAN 4 Kupang in teaching English. The method used was descriptive qualitative method. This research was conducted in SMAN 4 Kupang, particularly English teacher of tenth grade of SMAN 4 Kupang in teaching English in November, 2023. The data resource of this study was spoken language used by English teacher of grade 10 of SMAN 4 Kupang. In collecting the data, the writer used observation, interview, and recording as the data collection techniques. The data were analysed by using Searle’s theory. The results show that there were four types of illocutionary acts used by the English teacher of tenth grade of SMAN 4 Kupang in teaching English in class. They were 328 utterances distributed in four types of illocutionary acts namely, directives consist of 183 utterances with the percentage of 56%,assertives consists of 125 utterances with the percentage of 38%, expressives consist of 16utterances with the percentage of 5%, commisives consist of 4 utterances with thepercentage of 1%. The type of illocutionary acts that is mostly used by the English teacheris directive with the total number is 183 utterances and its percentage is 56%.
