<note>The writer was interested in researching the effectiveness of Small Group Discussion in reading comprehension of narrative text at eighth grade students of UPTD SMP Negeri 8 Kupang. The method of this study was mix method (quantitative and qualitative). The quantitative method used test includes pre-test and post-test (one group design). The population of the research was 31 students. The sample was obtained by using the simple random sampling technique. The research was conducting by giving pre-test and post-test. Pre-test was given to see the students’ basic capability in reading before the treatment was conducted. Posttest measured the effectiveness of the treatment toward students’ reading progress in certain period. After that, the qualitative data were collected from observation checklist, interview, and note taking to make sure the data were accurate. The finding showed the Small Group Discussion was effective. The score of pre-test classification was fair and the score of post-test classification was good. T-test was applied to calculate the data to test the hypothesis. The writer’s findings indicated the significance value of implementing Small Group Discussion was effective before and after using that method. The men of pre-test was 61,61 while
post-test was 76.00. Based on the result, Small Group Discussion improved students’ reading comprehension in learning narrative text at UPTD SMP Negeri 8 Kupang.
