<note>Listening is one of the challenging skills for students. However, limited attention in the classroom was given to improve the skill. A preliminary study at the second-grade students’ of SMP Negeri 2 Rote Timur revealed that there were 3 main listening difficulties faced by the students. Those are listening for details, unfamiliar sounds and vocabulary. Since some of the students (14 out of 30 students) experienced difficulty in listening for details, this study focused to improve the listening for detail sub skill by applying running dictation. The sample in this study was taken by using purposive sampling. The writer chose the students study as the sample. This research was classroom action research, there
were 30 students participating in this study. The result of the study revealed that after being taught by using running dictation, the students’ score in listening for details improves significantly. The mean score of pre-test is 33.33% goes up to 70.00% in the post-test. It means that running dictation increases students’ scores is 66.00% points. Furthermore, the analysis of post-test is 81.00%. Therefore, running dictation method can be an alternative activity in teaching listening skill, because it can motivate students and also improve their skill. Besides, it is suggested to English teacher to apply running dictation method activity as one of the alternative in teaching English</note>
