<note>This research is entitled: “The Use of Reciprocal Teaching Method to Increase Reading Ability in Narrative Text of The Second-Grade Students of UPTD SMP Negeri Beangonong in Alor Regency”. The purpose of this research is to find out how useful reciprocal teaching methods are to increase students’ reading ability in narrative text. This is the classroom action research that focuses on learning in the classroom by applying the reciprocal teaching method as a learning method that aims to increase students’ reading ability through narrative text. The subject of this
research was second-grade students of UPTD SMP Negeri Beangonong. The researcher used qualitative and quantitative methods. Tests (pre-test and post-test) and observation sheets were used to collect the data. Both pretest and posttest had 10 questions about narrative text consisting of 5 multiple choice and 5 essay-based questions to be delivered during the implementation of the Reciprocal Teaching Method in each cycle. Based on the result findings of this research, students’ reading ability before implementing the reciprocal teaching method was low, it can be seen in the mean score of the pretest was 33,3. The mean score of the posttest in cycle one was 77,38, the mean score of the posttest in cycle two was 87,38 and the last score of the test was 86,38. Based on the data above, It can be concluded that Students’ understanding of the reciprocal teaching method was useful to increase their reading ability in narrative text.</note>
