This research is entitled: AN ANALYSIS OF GRAMMATICAL AND LEXICAL AMBIGUOUS WORD IN KUPANG MALAY SENTENCES. There are two aims that the researcher would like to achive in this thesis. First, the research aims to to identify which are word, phrase and sentence of Kupang Malay that are categorized as grammatical ambiguity. Second, the research to identify which are word, phrase and sentence of Kupang Malay that are categorized as lexical ambiguity. The method was a qualitative descriptive method. Data collecting techiques in this writing were observation and interview. The procedure of this research procedure was field research. The result of this research, the researcher found that grammatical ambiguity occurs due to incorrect placement of words in a sentence, creating more than one possible meaning and is usually called deep structure ambiguity. In surface structure ambiguity, researchers found that several words in Kupang can be divided into two different meanings. Lexical ambiguity at this level, the researcher found that ambiguity occurs not only in words that have different meanings but also in figurative words that were included in the metaphor of ambiguity. The researcher have also found that habit was also a major cause of ambiguity.
