<note>This thesis is entitled: 'AN ANALYSIS OF CLASSROOM INTERACTION USING THE FLINT SYSTEM IN EFL CLASS AT GRADE X OF SMA NEGERI 4 KUPANG'. The aims of this research are to identify the types of teacher talk and student talk during classroom interaction in grade X of SMA Negeri 4 Kupang and to find out the characteristics of classroom interaction between the teacher and the students in grade X of SMA Negeri 4 Kupang by using the FLINT system. This research used qualitative descriptive method. The subjects of this research were the teacher and the students at grade X of SMA Negeri 4 Kupang. This research used observation while recorded all the teaching and learning process to collect
the data. The data were analysed by using the interactive model of data analysis. The findings show that there were seven types of teacher talk: dealing with feelings, praising or encouraging, using ideas of students, asking questions, giving information, giving directions, and criticizing
student behavior. Meanwhile, two types of student talk: student response specific and student response, open-ended or student-initiated during classroom interaction in grade X of SMA Negeri 4 Kupang, and there were four characteristics of classroom interaction: content cross,
teacher control, teacher support, and students participation between the teacher and the student.</note>
