This research is entitled “The Use of English Prepositions by Eleventh Grade Students of SMA N 2 Rahong Utara. The aims of this study are to know what are English prepositions used in written text by Eleventh Grade students of SMAN 2 Rahong Utara, to analyze the correct and incorrect use of using English prepositions by the students and to identify the weaknesses of using English prepositions in writing by the students. The subject of this research were the Eleventh Grade students in Language and culture programme of SMAN 2 Rahong Utara Beokina. Qualitative methods was applied in this research. The data were collected by using written text (cloze test) and interview. The result of this research were: (1) The students used approximately twenty eight English preposition in completing the cloze test. (2) The writer found out that the students have errors in using English prepositions to complete the text. (3) The writer found out the student’s weaknesses in using English prepositions. The factors causing of errors and weaknesses in using English prepositions are the lack of English prepositions mastery and the students did not know that the prepositions in English have different kinds and functions. There were some similar prepositions but they had different functions and uses.
