<note>Mistry R. Paut (2023), English Study Program, University of Nusa Cendana, Research title: ‘’A Study on English Learning Motivation and Attitudes of English Education Undergraduate Students of Nusa Cendana University’’ (Prof. Drs. Tans Feliks, M.Ed., Ph.D., as Supervisor I, and Merlyn Kristine Nelloe, S.Pd., M.Ed., M.App.Ling as Supervisor II). The purposes of this study are: 1) To describe the motivations of the third-semester students. 2) To determine the predominant motivation (instrumental or integrative) among the third-semester students in the academic year 2023/2024 from the English department in learning English. 3) To determine the attitudes of third-semester students in the academic year 2023/2024 in the English department in learning English.
This research uses a descriptive-qualitative method. This research was conducted at the English Department of Nusa Cendana University, Adisucipto Penfui Street, Kupang, NTT, Indonesia. The subjects of this research were third-semester students in class B in the academic year 2023/2024. The data collection techniques used were close-ended and open-ended questionnaires. The data analysis techniques used were data tabulation, classifying data, and conclusion. The result of this study shows that third-semester students were more integratively motivated than instrumentally motivated. Their attitudes were positive in learning English. It is intended that this research will be valuable for English lecturers in Nusa Cendana University's English language education study program, future researchers, and policymakers in developing appropriate learning materials and environments that increase student motivation and attitudes.
