<note>This research was conducted at SMP Kristen Harapan Soe. The subjects of this research were the first grade students that consisted of 25 students. The researcher applied Classroom Action Research and it was carried out in two cycles that consisted of four-steps: planning, action observation, andreflection.
The result of the analysis showed that using word grouping activities could improve student’s vocabulary, it was supported by the result of pre-test was 16% or only 4 students who passed the testwith the average score in pre-test was 48.96, while the result of post-test of the cycle I was 52% or 13 students who passed the test with the average score was 60.26, and the result of post-test in cycle II was 100% with the average score was 86.68. This proves that there was significantimprovement of student’s ability in learning vocabulary using word grouping activities. The suggestion is vocabulary is an important thing in learningEnglish and many students who do not master the vocabulary well yet so the teacher as the facilitator must use the appropriate way to solve their problems, one of which is by using word grouping activities.
