<note>Directive speech acts is a branch of linguistics in pragmatics, it studies utterances given by a speaker with the hope that the person’s speech can be understood the listener and can carry out the action expected by the speaker. This research focuses on the analysis of directive speech acts used by English teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Kota Kupang. This research aims to identify and analyze directive speech acts using the theory put forward by Ibrahim (1993: 27) and the function of directive speech acts using the theory put forward by Jakobson (1960). The data for this research are all directive speech acts uttered by two English teachers who teach at SMA Negeri 1 Kota Kupang. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative and uses video recording techniques as a data collection method. The research results show that there are directive speech acts used by English Teachers, namely questions, requirements, requestives, permissives, advisories, and prohibitives. The functions of directive speech found in English teachers’ utterances are conative and phatic. From the research results, it is known that the questions type is the type of directive speech act most often used by English teachers. The researcher also shows that the function of directive speech acts, that are mostly used by English teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Kota Kupang is conative. This research also found that the realization of speech is in two forms, direct and indirect speech acts. The most data was found in the realization of direct speech followed by the realization of indirect speech.
