Its aims are: to find out the main characters in the story ―The Fall of the House of Usher‖ by Edgar Allan Poe and to describe the characterization of the main characters. The method in this study is qualitative by using library research; the data for the research is all sentences and dialogues among the character in the stories which are related to the characters’ characterization. The main characters in The Fall of The house of Usher are: Roderick Usher (the last member of the venerable but endangered Usher family), Lady Madeline Usher (Roderick Usher's younger sister), and narrator (an outside observer who witnessed the events that occurred at Usher's house. Roderick Usher is the protagonist in this story. His overall role and characteristics make a major contribution to the mysterious and gothic atmosphere of this story. Roderick Usher suffered from increasingly deteriorating health conditions, including physical weakness and mental anxiety. His shattered health becomes a major element that creates tension and anxiety in the Usher household. Lady Madeline is Roderick Usher's sister, and their relationship creates an emotional dynamic in the story. The emotional bond between these brothers gives a tragic dimension to the story of the Usher family. His overall contributions and characteristics create a mysterious, gothic, and tragic element to the story. The narrator is the character who tells the story and provides a personal perspective on the events that occur in the house of Usher. Although the physical identity of the narrator is not explained in detail, the role and observations of the narrator have a major impact on the atmosphere and development of the story as a whole. The narrator's feelings of discomfort and anxiety add a mysterious feel to the story.
