English vocabulary is a basic and important thing to learn. The purpose of learning vocabulary is to help students to be able to communicate. The students need to learn vocabulary first before mastering the four skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Cartoon movie can be used as a learning media that is interesting and helpful for the students. The problem of this thesis is Can movie cartoons implemented the student’s mastery of vocabulary in the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 10 Kupang? and what are the advantages of teaching English by using cartoon movie ?. This study aims at finding out whether the use of cartoon movie can improve the students mastery of vocabulary.There were 30 students, 8 female and 22 male students taken as the subject of reseacrh. The researcher used the descriptive–qualitative method in conducting the research. The researcher used questionnaires, interviews and observation in collecting the data. The observation was conducted to know the implementation of the cartoon movie in teaching vocabulary. Interviews were made to know the advantages of the cartoon movie in teaching vocabulary. The result show that use of the cartoon movie can improve vocabulary of the seventh grade of SMPN 10 Kupang. It was also an interesting and simple. This made students more enjoyable and motivated in the teaching learning process. It is suggested that the teacher can use a cartoon movie to improve students’ vocabulary.
