This writing contains of a semiotic analysis on „Betek‟ as a cultural property of Dawanese society. Its aims are : 1) to find out the forms of motif symbols in Betek, 2) to identify the meanings of motif symbols in Betek. A descriptive qualitative method was applied for this purpose. In gathering the data, seven symbols on „Betek‟ are used as data resources and taken from Naitae village. The result of analysis shows that there are seven forms of motif symbols in Betek of Timorese. They are Ninef motif (elongated) which has elongated form of lines separated by each color, which is red and white; Pua Pisa motif (one piece of areca nut) that has a rhombus that shape like a half piece of areca nut form; Mutif motif (elongated) that has a lined up length-wise form; Bok Fua Makonob motif (pumpkin seeds inserted) that has a rhombus interspersed with pumpkin bounded by cross line form; Iup Bubu Makonob motif (broken bamboo twigs) that has straight lines form; and the last is Noe Muti/ Bet’ Manoel motif (the white river) that has like a protective fence form. Each motif has its meaning. Ninef motif is a symbol of the flag of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia; Pua Pisa motif is a symbol of betel and areca nut in Timorese customs; Mutif motif is the symbol of the king and the army in the colonial/war period; Bok Fua Makonob motif is a symbol of the matter of the community life in a government;Iup Bubu Makonob motif is a symbol of the head or leader of the government/ the king; Iup Kak Toef motif is a symbol of the assistance of troops; and the last is Noe Muti/Bet’ Manoel motif is a symbol of one determination one goal.
