<note>The title of this study is politeness of lecturers interaction with fifth semester students of English Department of Nusa Cendana University based on sociolinguistic perspective. The problems are (1) how is politeness applied in English-speaking interaction between lecturers and fifth-semester students of English Department of Nusa Cendana University in academic year 2023/2024?; (2) how is the application of maxim concepts as indirect politeness in the interaction between lecturers and the fifth-semester students of English Department in academic year 2023/2024 in Speaking English? The research design was a descriptive qualitative method with field research as the research procedure. The research subjects of this study were fifth-semester students of English Department of Nusa Cendana University in academic year 2023/2024 with a sample size of 40 students. The data collection techniques used were observation, interview, and questionnaire. The result showed that: The study examines the application of politeness in English speaking between lecturers and fifth-semester students at Nusa Cendana University during the academic year 2023-2024. Lecturers praised students, maintained humility, and showed empathy, while students greeted respectfully, expressed appreciation, and engaged in respectful discussions. The study also found that indirect politeness was applied well, with only three maxims applied: maxim of quality, maxim of relation, and maxim of manner.
