<note>This study entitled “AN ANALYSIS OF MEANING AND FUNCTIONS OF FORMS IN TRADITIONAL SONG LYRICS IN NGADA REGENCY”. The problems of this study are (1) what are types of meaning of forms in traditional song lyrics in Ngadaregency?(2) what are functions of forms in traditional song lyrics in Ngada Regency? There are two aims of this study: (1) to find out and describe the type of meaning of forms in traditional song lyrics in Ngada regency; (2) to identify and describe the functions of forms in traditional song lyrics Ngada regency. The writer used the theory of Meaning by Leech to answer first problem formulation and the theory of language function by Jacobson and answer second problem formulation. Ngada traditional songs used in this research areBengu Rele Kaju, Besi Bero, Degha-degha and O Ine Mora Ate. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected by using documentary study. The data were analyzed by using two procedures, namely: identifying and describing. The result showed that: 1. There are some meanings found in Ngada traditional song lyrics: Bengu Rele Kaju song that was identified has four meanings that is, conceptual meaning, thematic meaning, social meaning and affective meaning; Besi Bero songs lyric possesses conceptual meaning, collocative meaning, connotative meaning and reflected meaning; Degha-degha songs lyric contains conceptual meaning, social meaning, affective meaning and reflected meaning; O Ine Mora Ate songs lyricinvolves conceptual meaning, social meaning, affective meaning and reflected meaning. 2. There are five functions embedded in Ngada traditional song lyrics: a. Referential function, found in Bengu Rele Kaju song, Besi Bero song, Degha-degha and O Ine Mora Ate song; b. Directive function, obtained in Bengu Rele Kaju song, Besi Bero song and Degha-degha song; c. Expressive function, found in Bengu Rele Kaju song and O Ine Mora Ate song; d. Poetic function got in Besi Bero song; e. Phatic function involved in Bengu Rele Kaju song and O Ine Mora Ate song.
