This thesis is entitled: ‘The Use of Short Story in Developing Vocabulary of Seventh Graders of UPTD SMPN 1 Kupang in Academic Year 2023/2024. The problem of this research is: Can the use of short story develop vocabulary of seventh graders of UPTD SMPN 1 Kupang in academic year 2023/2024? This study aims at finding out whether the use of short story can develop the vocabulary of seventh graders of UPTD SMPN 1 Kupang in academic year 2023/2024. The research design used was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research was conducted in UPTD SMPN 1 Kupang, especially seventh graders in the academic year 2023/2024 in Januari, 2024. There were two cycles. There were 352 students as the population, and 32 students were selected as the sample or 25% of the population. In collecting the data, the students were given the multiple choice test and the number of items of the test was 30 items. The writer applied some formulas to analyze the data. The result shows that the short-story can develop the vocabulary of seventh graders of UPTD SMPN 1 Kupang in academic year 2023/2024. It can be seen from the result of students’ scores in the pre-test, the students’ vocabulary level in the pre-test achieved the Minimum Achivement Criteria (KKM). There were 19 students or 59% achieved the Minimum Achievement Criteria. In the post-test students vocabulary level mostly achieved the Minimun Achievement Criteria (KKM). There were 25 students or 78% achieved the Minimum Achievement Criteria. It can be concluded that the short story can develop vocabulary of seventh graders of UPTD SMPN 1 Kupang in academic year 2023/2024. Keywords: Short Story, Developing, Vocabulary
