<note>This thesis is entitled: ‘A Study On Motivation In Learning English By Eleventh Grade Students Of Language Program Of SMAN 1 Waingapu In Academic Year 2023/2024 ‘. The problems of this research are: first, what are types of  motivation in learning English by eleventh grade students of language program of SMAN 1 Waingapu in academic year 2023/20224? Second, what are factors that affect motivation in learning English by eleventh grade students of language program of SMAN 1 Waingapu in academic year 2o23/2024. This study aims to find out and describe types of motivation in learning English by eleventh grade of language program of SMAN 1 Waingapu, east Sumba in academic year 2023/2024, and to describe the factors that effect motivation in learning English by eleventh grade students of language program of SMAN 1 Waingapu. The research design used was qualitative descriptive method. The research was conducted at SMAN 1 Waingapu.  There were 33 students of eleventh grade of language program of SMAN 1 Waingapu in academic year2023/2024. Techniques used to collect data were interview, questionnaire and observation. The data resource  of this study were eleventh grade students of language program of SMAN 1 Waingapu in academyc year 2023/2024. The data were analyzed by using Likert scale. The writer concludes that the types of motivation in learning english by eleventh grade student of language program of SMAN 1 Waingapu in academic year 2023/2024 are extrinsic motivation and instrinsic motivation. The students' intrinsic motivation is higher that extrinsic motivation. It is percentage is 95%, and the percentage of extrinsic motivation is 94%. There are some factors that effect student motivation in learning English by eleventh grade students of language program of SMAN 1 Waingapu, such as culture, family, school, the child itself, parent factor, teacher factor, environment of society factors. Based on the observation result, the learning atmosphere in the English learning process is the main factor that influenced students in learning English.  Apart from that, based on interview result it was found that the material studied by students also played an important role in influencing their motivation in learning English.
