<note>This research was conducted to analyze grammatical errors in writing descriptive texts made by eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Kupang Tengah. This research method is a qualitative and quantitative method. The sample for this research was class VIII students of SMP N 1 Kupang Tengah and was selected using random sampling techniques. The instrument of this research is a writing test. Based on the results, eighth grade students often make grammatical errors in their writing. These errors are analyzed based on four types, namely Omission, Addition, Misformation, and Misordering. After analyzing the data obtained from 16 students. Researchers found a total of 34 errors that determine the highest frequency and lowest frequency. The research results showed that the highest frequency of grammatical errors made by students was Omisson at 50% and the lowest frequency of grammatical errors made by students was Addition, namely 14.70%. The highest errors are caused by Interlingual Transfer or the negative influence of the mother tongue. This happens because English grammar is different from Indonesian grammar. The lowest error is caused by Intralingual transfer. There is an incorrect generalization of rules in the target language. Based on the above findings, the researcher can conclude that eighth grade students need to learn more about English grammar to avoid mistakes in writing English Texts
