<note>This thesis is entitled: ‘The Ability Of Eighth Graders Of SMP Negeri 10 Takari In Academic Year 2023/2024 In Comprehending English Recount Text’. The problems of this research are: (1) To what extend are eighth graders of SMPN 10 Takari in academic 2023/2024 able to comprehend English recount text? (2) What are problems encountered by the students in comprehending English recount texts? (3) What are offered solutions to those problems? This study aims are: (1) To know the ability level of eighth graders of SMPN 10 Takari in academic year 2023/2024 in comprehending English recount texts, (2) To identify problems encountered by the students in comprehending English recount texts and (3) To describe the offered solutions to those problems. The research design used was quantitative descriptive method. The research was conducted in SMPN 10 Takari, especially eighth-grade students in the academic year 2023/2024 in December, 2023. There were 43 students as the population, and all of the students were selected as the sample. There were two instruments used to collect the data, such test and interview. The test was multiple choice test consists of 30 items. The writer applied some formulas to analyze the data. The result shows that eighth grade students of SMPN 10 Takari are able to comprehend English recount text because based on the result of the test there were 32 students got excellent grades of 80-100,  6 students got good grades of 70-79 and 5 students got poor grades of 0-59. There were some problems encountered by the students in comprehending recount text, such as student still lacks of vocabulary, students rarely practiced reading comprehension and students were not motivated to practice reading comprehension. The offered solutions of those problems are teachers should motivate students to practice reading comprehension, teachers should motivate students to develop more their vocabulary and teacher should motivate students to practice reading as a habit.
