<note>ABSTRACT 

This thesis is entitled “STUDENTS’ LEARNING STRATEGIES IN IMPROVING LISTENING SKILLS”. Listening is the best way to communicate successfully because when students listen carefully, they can understand what the speaker or lecturer is saying. The problem of this study is (1) What are students’ learning strategies used in improving listening skills? 2) What are the most dominant learning strategies students used in improving their listening skills? This study aims are (1) To find out students’ learning strategies in improving listening skills. (2) To find out the most dominant learning strategies used by students in improving listening skills. The method use in this study was descriptive qualitative. The subjects of the research were 25 students of the English Education Study Program of Nusa Cendana University in academic 2023/2024 from class C. The data were collected by using questionnaire and interview. The research result show that the students used learning strategies in improving their listening skills. (1) Learning strategies student used was Cognitive Strategies, Metacognitive Strategies, and Socio-Affective Strategies. (2) The most dominant learning strategy used by students was Cognitive Strategies, such as repetition, listening to main idea, summarization, taking note, imagery, and personal elaboration. Besides, the researcher concluded that learning strategy has important role for students to achieve their learning goals.
