<note>This thesis explores the types of phatic communication within the Lewotolok community and its connection to cultural values. The study aims to identify the types of phatic communication used in daily social interactions and how these practices contribute to strengthening social bonds and preserving cultural heritage in Lewotolok. The research is framed within Aitchison’s theory of phatic communication and Schwartz's cultural dimensions, including collectivism, respect for social hierarchy, and harmony with nature. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation of phatic communication practices in traditional events and daily life of the Lewotolok people. The findings reveal that phatic communication in Lewotolok includes greetings, expressions of empathy, and the use of ritual words that serve to reinforce social relationships and uphold traditional values. The study also highlights the significance of cultural practices like Soleh oha and Lian namang in maintaining social harmony and fostering a connection with nature. This research concludes that phatic communication serves not only as a tool for daily interaction but also as a means to preserve cultural identity and reinforce the social fabric of the Lewotolok community.
