ABSTRACT A Descriptive Study on Synonyms and Antonyms in Lamboya, West Sumba Regency By Apliana Dewa Reg. Number: 1801020106 Supervised by Dr. Sebastianus Fernandez, M.Pd., Grad.Dpl and Drs. Alexander H. Kabelen, MA. The aims of this research were to find out the synonym and antonym in Lamboya and to find out the types of synonym and antonym in Lamboya. The native speakers of Lamboya were chosen as the subject of this research. The method used in this study was qualitative method. Interview, recording, note-taking, and observation were used as the qualitative techniques of data collection. The data were analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that there were 43 pairs of words were found in Lamboya dialect consisting of 10 pairs of synonyms (1 pairs of absolute synonyms and 9 pairs partial synonyms) and 33 pairs of antonyms (6 pairs of absolute antonyms, 15 pairs of graded antonyms, 12 pairs of relationship antonyms, and no hierarchical antonyms), but this figure cann’t reflect the exact number of synonym and antonym in Lamboya.
