<note>This research is motivated by the importance of interest in learning in improving English language skills and the importance of understanding the factors that influence interest in learning English. The method used in this study was quantitative method. The subjects of this study were 32 seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 12 Kupang from Class 7D. The data were collected by using questionnaires and observation sheets. The questionnaires were given to see the students’ interest in learning English and factors that influence it. Observation sheet was used to support the data obtained from questionnaires. The research results show that the students have a high interest in learning English. It can be seen from the percentage of five indicators, namely, attention (77.3%), motivation (85.1%), enjoyment (73.8%), activities (71.3%), and perception (71.7%). In addition, the students’ interest in learning English is influenced by several factors, including physical factors, psychological factors (intelligence, readiness, and attention), family factors, and school factors (teacher, facilities, and peer factors).
